Coach, coach, coach. There seems to be a coach for nearly any and everything nowadays, a booming industry that became popularised during the lockdown. Many of us were either coached in a specific area or began a journey to become certified coaches. It’s such a fulfilling path to be able to serve others. Personally, when I stumbled onto this industry, it felt like I had found my purpose. A field that I could talk about for hours and not get bored. One that aligned with my core values, strengths, and interests. I believe we all need guidance in some format, one option is through coaching. Today I’m sharing 5 benefits life coaching can have on your success.

Accountability

We all need accountability in our lives, whether it’s from ourselves or another party. Take going to the gym as an example. We can goal-set with the purest of intentions, but consistency can lack when we’re alone. Many factors go into our decisions, like mood, weather, schedule. When we have an accountability partner we tend to thrive and follow through as we don’t want to let the other person down. Having a coach can keep us motivated, remind us of our why, and can highlight our progress on days we’re feeling low. Accountability is essential for freelancers, entrepreneurs, self-employed individuals. It’s a quality that we need to nurture as it sets us up for success.

A life coach can check in with you regularly about the progress you’ve made with your goals.

Self-Awareness

I’m a big advocate of self-awareness. This is where every journey should begin because many are walking around with no knowledge of themselves. If you don’t understand yourself, your quality of life can suffer as you’re unaware of what creates your essence. Coaching can help you explore and articulate your strengths, interests, identity but also acknowledge your limitations. Being self-aware can be so beneficial in job interviews, networking events, or running a business. You’ll be able to sell your qualities but also demonstrate how you’re working on your weaknesses.

The majority of us have been asked the dreaded question “what are your weaknesses?” in a job interview. Do you hesitate or answer with perfectionism? Neither work in your favour, instead, look within, explore further and be authentic when answering. Success is subjective, but we all have goals we want to achieve. I truly believe like therapy, everyone should get coached. From life coaching for expats to career coaching for business owners. We all need guidance at different stages of life and there’s someone who’s aligned to your values that could help.

Goal Setting

There are many frameworks for goal setting from SMART goals or backward visualisation techniques to goal pyramid or conscious competence model. It all depends on what the specific vision and desired results are of the client. A coach can help pinpoint exactly what your goals are and how to work towards them, hitting all the milestones along the way. You gain clarity once you’ve spoken through your idea and how you wish to execute it. A coach guides you in the process and asks questions you may not have considered before like practicalities or budgets.

By speaking through your ideas, a coach can help you gain clarity, set specific goals and strategic pathways.

Speaking Up

Insecurities or lack of knowledge can make us stay quiet in times we need to make our voice heard. I recently did an Instagram poll asking if people preferred speaking up or keeping it to themselves. The results were surprising as a large percentage of people voted to keep quiet, some even had big personalities. I honestly thought they were trolling me but then I realised we all have our own insecurities. Some that can’t be seen on the surface, yet we battle with internally.

Coaching can potentially transform you if you’re open and committed to the process. Personally, I’ve jumped into all types of coaching, from 1:1, group and getting trained as a coach myself. It allowed me to build a toolkit of how to approach and speak up in certain situations. When being undermined in a group meeting or correcting the pronunciation of my name. It all ties back to our self-worth and not tolerating any level of disrespect.

(BONUS) EFT Tapping

EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) essentially works by tapping on energy points to release negative blocks around limiting beliefs, stress, and emotions. Making it effective for anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, or phobias. I only named a few but there are many benefits to EFT. It’s impactful, whether it’s dealing with daily issues or deep routed pain points.

I had a complementary session with Andrea to understand the technique further and share my honest experience. My session focused in on body image and self-acceptance. Reframing negative thoughts to an empowering narrative, away from Eurocentric beauty standards. My first-time trying EFT tapping was a refreshing experience as I could feel the emotional blocks being woken up. I loved Andrea’s supportive yet real approach, I could resonate to the things she was saying. She also suggested ways to add more positivity into my daily routine. From putting post-it notes around the mirror (to remind me of my worth) to a guided morning EFT. Every month Andrea has a giveaway on Instagram where you could win an EFT or life coaching session. All you have to do is tag 3 people in the comment section, here’s this month’s giveaway.

Through coaching, you’ll see your potential, the greatness hidden within, and begin speaking up and showing out.
